I have heard that there are actually churches like this in the US. Although I have not been to one, nor would I ever go. This is not church! There is no God in a church like this, only man. Church is not for entertaining but for repentance and worship and communing with the Almighty. Not for rock and roll and flashy lights and a concert.
I feel sorry for people who think this is church. They are truly missing out on real worship, and real Christian life and devotion.
I thought this was rather funny. Like John k, I have never experienced this sort of church myself so I am sure elements of the spoof were lost on me but the bits that I recognised from Youtube videos had me laughing. Thank you for sharing.
Worshiping God can most certainly be done in the music style of a generation. Otherwise, we would all be using harp and lyre, or singing Gregorian chants. The Middle Ages had no hook on how to worship. Music that is 200 years old is not ordained by God. Jesus in the temple would have engaged in music more like that which the Jewish cantors perform today.
Get relevant!
Kimberly,
Thank you for your comment. Perhaps you can explain what you mean by "relevant"? Do you mean that Christian worship should be shaped by popular culture?
Do you think that the cantorial singing in which Christ participated was "relevant" to his day, or had it been practiced for centuries prior?
By the way, the singing in an Orthodox Church today is not unlike that of a Jewish cantor. We Orthodox Christians, unlike modern American Evagelicals, prefer to worship in a manner more consistent with the worship in which Christ and his followers engaged rather than something akin to what you'd find on MTV.
Scarily familiar ... in another life.
