I had heard (and may have mentioned here) that there was one--and only one--freestanding Christian church of any kind in the country of Afghanistan and this is it.
It is an Orthodox chapel at Kandahar Air Base and was built by Romanian troops fairly recently (at least since I was there six years ago). Here is a link to a slideshow:

I have to admit: I could do without the Romanian flags inside the chapel, which I think is totally inappropriate.
...especially on the Altar!!!
True ... about the flag, but it's awesome to see the church in Afghan. And to see so many worshipping.
is not inappropriate to put our flag in the church considering that Romania is an orthodox country. (87% of Romanians are orthodox). Orthodoxy is linked with our culture, is our national identity. The flag is the ICON of Romania, it's not about patriotic pride, it's about reaffirmation of values that have been stored at the cost of lives.
The flag is the symbol of a political entity that is a little over a hundred years old. It has no place on the altar. The values of the Romanian people, and of all Orthodox Christians, are reaffirmed in the Cross of Christ, not in a secular banner.
